Customer Rating: Summary: An Incredible Resource For That Beatles Gear Fanatic! Comment: There is not much I can add to the many reviews already written here about Andy Babiuk's exhaustive and meticulous chronicling of the equipment owned and used by The Beatles from their beginnings in Liverpool, through the final Abbey Road sessions.
Everything about the book, the style, the double page color photographs, the glossy photo grade paper, is top notch. Babiuk walks us through the migration and evolution of sound and instruments with photos of The Beatles actual guitars, amps, drums, effects, etc. when available, and exact or similar replicas when the originals weren't available. And on the edge of many pages, he's added pictures of The Beatles with those instruments, brochure pictures from the day, and even photo copies of the actual bills of sale.
I get Beatles CDs and books as Christmas gifts every year and I had missed getting this one when it came out. So I made a special request last year and sure enough, there it was under the tree. I knew from friends what it was, but I had no idea how enjoyable it would be to read through the commentary, explanations, behind the gear stories and personal anecdotes pertaining to all of the many different instruments that The Beatles employed during their day in the world's eye.
The Beatles Gear is a must have for any serious Beatles fan, especially if you were not only into their music, but the actually instruments that they used to get that unique, trend setting Beatles sound!
Customer Rating: Summary: Sweetly Vintage Comment: Being a kind of technical guru myself, I really appreciate a book that is about equipment...especially vintage. Babiuk has created a book here that is both very precise and entertaining at the same time. It is a wealth of information and great pictures that anyone with an interest in vintage musical equipment can enjoy.
If you like old musical instruments, especially of the 60's variety, even more especially of the Beatlesque variety, than this book will make you drool. Literally. Luckily for everyone involved, it has very glossy pages that resist drool well.
This tome elevates a much neglected player in the Beatles phenomenon to the spotlight...the instruments. When you are the most popular band in the universe you get your choice of a lot of equipment and this book highlights those choices.
The pictures that this book uses are fabulous. They are bright, clear, and detailed. Here you have a chance to see these magical instruments up-close and analyzed. it's the kind of book that you could read start to finish, in small chunks before bed, or in smaller chunks while on the throne.
Babiuk organizes this book by years, so it is easy to see the progression of instrumentation that the Beatles used. I prefer this to having things organized by instrument type, which would have been the other choice. Each entry gives a lot of great information about the particular guitar, drum, or amp, and includes quotes from the Beatles themselves where applicable. Reading this book is like discovering that your best friend has a really hot sister you never noticed because you were too busy playing an awesome video game. It opens a whole new dimension on a previously explored relationship.
Customer Rating: Summary: Beatles Gear Comment: If your interested in the History of Guitar Bands, and how they evolved over the last forty five years, this is the book for you. It follows the Beatles through the years and shows how equipment company's over came large crowd
noise and forged the trial and error of the first real significant studio recordings.
Customer Rating: Summary: beatles gear Comment: this is very enjoyable book, with lot of information about the Beatles gear from the very beginning to end of the band. its must have book for every Beatles fun and every musician that admires the Fab four.
i really enjoyed this book.
the pictures are great and there are lot of rare photos and detailed photos of the instruments.
it can be very nice gift for any musician and Beatles fan.
Customer Rating: Summary: Beatle Gear Comment: This is a fabulous book. Not only does it give us an incite into their musical gear used but I found it an interesting way to learn about their personalities. I definatly recommend this book to any Beatle fan.
